- MSc Medicine and Surgery (LM-41) – Venice
- BSc Biomedical Laboratory Techniques (L/SNT-3)
Graduated with honors in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” she subsequently obtained a PhD with honors in Biochemistry from the same university, in the Department of Biochemical Sciences “Alessandro Rossi Fanelli.” During her PhD, she conducted a research period at the Department of Chemistry, BioMedicine Center, Uppsala University in Sweden, in the laboratory of Prof. Ylva Ivarsson. She later held a research fellowship at the Department of Radiological, Oncological, and Anatomopathological Sciences at the Umberto I University Hospital in Rome, University of Rome “La Sapienza.”
In 2019, she was awarded a three-year AIRC fellowship for her original research project, which she carried out at the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Ferrara, in the laboratory of Prof. Carlotta Giorgi and Prof. Paolo Pinton. Researcher at UniCamillus.
After working as a fixed-term researcher for one year at IRBM spa in Pomezia, she returned to academic research at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the Center for Life Nano & NeuroScience based in Rome, where she co-leads the Neurodegeneration and Protein Aggregation (NDPA) research group.
Her research activity is primarily focused on: studying the regulation of survival and cellular stress mechanisms mediated by changes in calcium homeostasis, studying protein-protein interactions and binding motifs through Phage Display, in vitro modeling of neurodegenerative diseases using patient-derived iPSCs, and developing drug screening and/or repurposing platforms for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (mainly ALS and HD).
She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific papers published in high-impact international journals. She is also a review editor for Frontiers in Oncology, section of Molecular and Cellular Oncology.
